Acute:Chronic Workload RatioLoad & Monitoring

This week's training load compared with the recent average.

The Acute:Chronic Workload Ratio compares an athlete's most recent training load (typically the last 7 days, the 'acute' load) with their rolling average over a longer window (usually 28 days, the 'chronic' load). It is used to flag rapid spikes in load that may raise injury risk. The concept is widely used but contested — the exact thresholds and calculation method are debated, so it is best treated as one monitoring signal rather than a rule.
